Perhaps one of the biggest news stories of the year, a coalition of media outlets published an extensive investigation of offshore accounts regarding the rich and famous. The leak includes world leaders, businessmen, celebrities and professional athletes. A Panamanian based law firm where the documents originated from confirmed the authenticity of the papers being published around the world. The German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung said it first received the data more than a year ago. They acquired the data through an anonymous source that only asked for the proper security measures to be taken. This leak is huge as "it allows a never-before-seen view inside the offshore world -- providing a day-to-day, decade-by-decade look at how dark money flows through the global financial system, breeding crime and stripping national treasuries of tax revenues." This leak can go both ways in the sense that there will be a huge overhaul in off shore accounting to combat the corruption. Or, it will continue only now they will hide or distract us better so these dealings go even more unnoticed. I hope the former is what carries out and we take another step to avoid corruption in the world.
In other news retired soccer star Abby Wambach was arrested in Oregon for a DUI. After running a red light she was pulled over and failed field sobriety tests as well as failing the breathalyzer at the police precinct. Sunday morning she issued a statement on her Facebook page regarding the incident. "Those that know me, know that I have always demanded excellence from myself. I have let myself and others down. I take full responsibility for my actions," she wrote. "This is all on me. I promise that I will do whatever it takes to ensure that my horrible mistake is never repeated. I am so sorry to my family, friends, fans and those that look to follow a better example." Wambach is the leading career scorer -- male or female -- in international soccer with 184 goals. She retired in December after 15-years with the U.S. women's national team. As unfortunate as it is, we can be thankful that no one was injured.
Moving to entertainment, more specifically World Wrestling Entertainment. Last night was Wrestlemania 32 where apparently The Undertaker wrestled for the last time. We were even lucky enough to have Stone Cold Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels and Mick Foley appear during the event. Other notable events were the seven man ladder match in which Zack Ryder walked away victorious. As stated before The Undertaker had a match last night, rather a Hell in a Cell match with Shane McMahon. In the Shane O Mac fashion of jumping off high places he went for a flying elbow from the top of the cell and landed on one of the announcing tables. As JR would say "That man is broken in half!" Many fans are displeased with the event as nothing new has come out of it regarding story-lines. It almost as if everything leading up to Wrestlemania didn't matter. As a long time WWE fan it pains me to see the direction they are taking with some of their decisions and outcomes.
